This was the second time Rockwell painted a colonial sign painter for the Saturday Evening Post, however the difference this time is that he included inquisitive townspeople looking on while he paints. This title is especially memorable because it depicts one of Rockwells kindred spirits from times past - the colonial sign painter. An additional 35 impressions were designated with Roman numerals and pencil signed by Norman Rockwell. 200 were numbered and 60 were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell. This full color lithograph measures 23 by 35 inches, and the edition consists of 295 impressions. Originally created for the Februedition of the Saturday Evening Post, The New Tavern Sign was hand proofed and printed by Atelier Ettinger. Publishers blinstamp lower left below image underneath Arches watermarkįramed in simple gold gilded frame measuring 24 1/4 x 36 1/4Įxcellent overall condition Loose sheet a few very feint mositure stains in lower margin slight toning from old backing.
